Ranya Renée

Coach, Director of the Ginger City

Hey there diva (or "divo"!)

Thanks so much for your interest in these Ginger City programs! I'm excited to run them -- the coaching series are the pinnacle where the big transformations happen, but I also love sharing the dance and performance skills programs that lead up to the coaching work. They cause "light bulbs" to light up for participants!  It's a rewarding process for me as well as the members.

**Please note**: the early deadline has been updated in the shopping carts for the baladi programs Baladi Coaching Series (BCS), to NOVEMBER 11, and Baladi Salon Series (BSS), to NOVEMBER 16. There was a typo between the info page and the cart that got missed with all the info below! So I decided to give some extra time to join at the early rates... I think the sooner you join though, the happier you'll be! ...Because we are beginning introductions and discussion in the forum this week, and you will have immediate access to course videos and materials, as well as our private group for the coaching series, where we will be setting some meeting times based on members' availability. We have 12 people so far in the coaching group from several different countries and regions, and it is such a nice group of people!!! No matter what level you are at, I think you'll enjoy it immensely.

If you have ANY questions about these programs, message me at support@gingercity.com, or set up a "Zoom phone" meeting with me to chat - https://calendly.com/ranya-renee/meeting  ...And figure out which program or programs will suit you best at this time! More info is also in this Zoom talk I gave :-)  I've been enjoying speaking with interested dancers all week, and I'm happy to speak to you too.

- Ranya Renee

Ranya Renee & the Ginger City
Calendar of Activities

There are a bunch of cool programs I'm running over the next few months, and if you want to work with me, you may be wondering what to prioritize. Want just a little bit? Can you do it all?

I've set a schedule so that all the programs work together to enhance each other. You can join just one. You can get them all, save some money and experience real transformation by February (I am sure enough of this to say it outright: the coaching series are very powerful.) The main series will run "live" with more interaction, especially for the coaching series, and some are available to purchase and go through at your own pace - all the recorded programs described here are for LIFETIME ACCESS, so you will be able to benefit in an ongoing way from anything you purchase now.

I have put together this guide for you, to spell it all out! - RR

ACTIVE PROGRAMS November 2020-February 2021

Egyptian baladi style, energy & performance coaching:

Baladi Salon Series (prerecorded with new meetings) & the Baladi Coaching Series (brand-new format, same detailed); Tarik Sultan and I will also start a monthly Baladi Talks series in the new year, for which we are planning stages now. We'll be joined by Egyptian and non-Egyptian guests to get deeper into the world of Egyptian dance, its baladi roots and other influences.

Applied performance skills:

New programs Work the Stage and Breathwork for Bellydance, and of course the Baladi Coaching Series, which is geared towards internal and external performance skills in the context of getting comfortable in Egyptian baladi (for all levels - relatively new to very experienced - no matter where you start, you'll see major progress over the course of the program).

NOTE: After this session (Nov-Feb), I do not have any plans to run the courses again live, so you should jump in now if you like the idea of going through them with me and a cohort of other dancers in a live, more interactive way, as opposed to just watching and working with recordings on your own (though that is still possible and some prefer that). You will also get the best rates by signing up now, even with a payment plan option to spread it out over several months.

If you are more independent and want programs you can do at your own pace without being active with a group (but still able to ask questions as they come up for you, in the website discussion forum), there are several to choose from (everything except those on that list above is still available to purchase and work through on your own!)... Everything has lifetime access, so you can get them anytime, but if you know you want them, you'll save money in purchasing that access now, either as pay-in-full or on a payment plan, because there are discounts available when the courses are in "promo mode". More programs will be added later this year, and you'll get credit for previous purchases made at this time, if you decide in December to get a "mega-bundle" of all the courses available at that time.

If you want to receive active coaching from me, and if you are considering applying to join the more involved Bring Your Best *6* performance coaching series, which starts live coaching meetings in March 2021, you'll want to get involved in the Baladi Coaching Series now, or in Breathwork for Bellydance/Work the Stage/Breathwork for Performance. Even if you are not already experienced in baladi, the baladi progressions (taqasim baladi) that we'll work with are a great way to work with your energy for the dance (we'll work on some famous baladi songs too!). You'll develop a sense of your own highs and lows, and how to balance your performance persona with your internal comfort. The breathwork and performance skills programs are also a great way to get into my methods for stage presence development, an important prerequisite before applying to Bring Your Best.

Eventually we'll meet in New York with a live Arabic band, when Covid fears are in the past, but for now, the coaching series will have online showcases as a culmination of dancers' amazing work throughout the series.   - Ranya

PS - watch the most recent Bring Your Best *5* online showcase via this link! The dancers were so wonderful, supported each other, and really shared themselves in performance. I dance at the end. Make sure to put it on fullscreen when the dancers are performing, so you won't be distracted by my proud facial expressions as MC of the show :-D

BALADI SALON SERIES

---> Read below for details for the 2020-2021 only live run of the Baladi Salon Series! <---

Also check out this short Zoom talk I gave about the upcoming programs.

What's the difference between the Baladi Salon Series and the Baladi Coaching Series? Why pick one or the other?

BSS = a technique-, culture-, and musicality-focused course with less personal feedback, hours of videos of training & dance drills. NEW for 2020: technique feedback component to get guidance during the course, for a more interactive experience than just getting the recordings (though you'll also get those, and for lifetime access too)

BCS = a true coaching series, with personalized feedback tailored to you as well as support and learning through feedback given to others, in a safe, supportive container. BCS is for those who want to reach the next level in not just their technique but also in their personal presentation, whether for performance or just to shine confidence in this style. To hear from previous coaching series participants (Bring Your Best and some Baladi Coaching Series members from past years) on what it's like to join one of my series, watch this video.

BSS + BCS ... for those that really want to take their baladi up a level in all four of these areas: technique, musicality, cultural understanding, and performance skills (both inner confidence and outer expression), as well as gain supportive dance friendships that will last beyond the series...and lifetime access to ALL recordings for your continued reference and growth.

You will not find anything else on the market like these series.
This will also be the only time they are offered in 2020-2021...and the only time at these rates. So join us if you want to get it all!

  • Nov. 16 deadline to join Baladi Salon Series from the beginning of this live round and still get the 2019 rate for BSS lifetime access before the price increases (including lifetime access to all the recordings) (cart has been updated to reflect this deadline)
  • Approximately nine (9) hours of pre-recorded training videos (available to you on sign-up!) with inspiration and analysis of the technique, cultural context, musicality, and performance qualities of four famous Egyptian legends: Tahia Carioca, Soheir Zaki, Fifi Abdou, and Mona el-Said, as applied to feminine baladi style; you will enjoy lifetime access to all videos - no time limit on your learning from these!
  • Baladi Salon Series technique monthly focus exercises (NEW for 2020): Each month we'll focus on one of the famous dancers, their technique and persona/performance approach! Work at your own pace, and connect with others in the group forum and meetings (*if you are taking the Baladi Coaching Series too, these exercises will be integrated*)
  • Baladi Salon Series technique check-in video submissions for feedback (NEW for 2020): Short technique "check-in" videos that you can submit during the series, prior to each live meeting, so I can address the technique challenges participants are having in a focused way during the live meetings (and without everyone needing to be there live, to still get guidance and tips, to get accountability and feel the team spirit!)
  • Four (4) live Zoom meetings to answer questions on the technique and approach of the different featured Egyptian dance legends covered in the BSS program - Tahia, Soheir, Fifi & Mona - recorded for later viewing as well if you can't attend live (meetings included FREE with all new signups to BSS - supplement of $47 for anyone who already has access to BSS and wants to join the live meetings, get technique feedback, and/or get meeting recordings). (Scheduled meeting dates: Sat. Dec. 19, Sun. Jan. 3; Sat. Jan. 16; Sun. Feb. 6; times to be confirmed, inclusive for time zones around the world)
  • Discussion forum on the Ginger City platform, for discussion and sharing - tag me for answers to your questions and I'll reply in the forum!
  • Private video galleries to share your practice work and ask video questions, if you are involved in the "live" part of the series (included for all new BSS purchasers; and included with $47 supplement for all those with previous BSS access)

BALADI COACHING SERIES

---> Read below for details for the ONLY 2020-2021 run of the
Baladi Coaching Series!  You will not want to miss this series - it is shaping up to be such a great group of people!!!! Excited for the powerful positive energy that will shape this series. <---

Also check out this short Zoom talk I gave about the upcoming programs.

To hear from previous coaching series participants (Bring Your Best and some Baladi Coaching Series members from past years) on what it's like to join one of my series, watch this video, and read more about my coaching philosophy and approach.

What's the difference between the Baladi Salon Series and the Baladi Coaching Series? Why pick one or the other?

BSS = a technique-, culture-, and musicality-focused course with hours of videos of training & dance drills, dancer film clips analysis. It's not a coaching course, but there will be a small amount of optional feedback for the Q&A, to get guidance during the course, for a more interactive experience than just getting the recordings. It's lifetime access to the program recordings, so you can get it now and do it at your own pace.

BCS = a true coaching series, mid November to mid February, with personalized feedback tailored to you as well as support and learning through feedback given to others, in a safe, supportive container. There will be an online performance showcase near the end of the program (participation optional but it will be fun!). BCS is for those who want to reach the next level in not just their technique but also in their personal presentation, whether for performance or just to shine greater confidence in Egyptian baladi style.

You will not find anything like these series on the market. This will also be the only time they are offered in 2020-2021...and the only time at these rates. So join us if you want to get it all!

  • After Nov. 1, prep videos and worksheets for group members will be available in the website for those who have already registered, and the dedicated private club in the discussion forum area opens for BCS members
  • Nov. 11 Last day to get the early rate for BCS (there was a typo on this page, so I will be giving a little extra time to get this rate - please sign up early to get active in the group! Cart has been updated to reflect this revised deadline. Get it!!! :-D
  • Nov. 16 final deadline to register for Baladi Coaching Series  (please join as early as you can - we are starting discussions now); also deadline to join Baladi Salon Series from the beginning and still get the 2019-2020 rate for BSS lifetime access
  • Meet-and-greet meetings will be scheduled for mid November (around the Nov. 14-15 weekend and shortly after, based on group members' availability, so we can get all the time zones in!) so series members can introduce themselves and meet each other, and I will give guidance for the first video submissions and what to focus on in the series
  • Baladi Coaching Series weekly exercises: Each week, you'll get an assignment to dance to. You can dance and record yourself that week, or catch up and record the following week; weekly recordings are suggested but not required, in case you have to skip a week. The more involved you are, the more you'll benefit!
  • The idea is to dance to a different short baladi or part of a longer baladi each time, so you will be challenged, but I'll structure the assignments so they will build on the previous weeks. Shorter pieces in the early weeks, longer pieces later on.
  • Twelve (12) weekly dance assignments (for you to work with on your own during that week and ideally complete with your own video, by the following weekend -- you'll get an overview of the assignments a few weeks in advance so you can plan, and still stay caught up even if you have to double-up or triple-up one week): Assignments are meant to be done in one or two short filmings...with just one or two primary objectives for each... and to upload quickly - not to agonize over! Limit your time and you will find that you grow because of the format of the series. This format, which I've been honing for about two decades and have adapted to online coaching, is carefully constructed to enable your progress, through supportive, targeted feedback, so you always feel empowered, even when the going gets tough, and witnessing others to give you greater knowledge and confidence on your journey!
  • (Then you'll get feedback on your submitted videos bi-weekly (6 times) in short targeted videos from me, in alternating weeks with other members in your pod! You get to pick which of your videos you want my feedback on, from the ones you submit. See below)
  • Assignments will be released Nov. 16, 23, 30; Dec. 7, 14, 21, (no release Dec. 28); Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25; Feb. 1, 8.
  • The aim of this schedule of regular recordings is to let go of perfection, to just keep tuning in to your body and your inner and outer energy, and sharing something each week (or every other week, if that is what you can manage). You'll be pleasantly rewarded with greater mastery and confidence in both baladi style and in using your own presence to your advantage. Some of the exercises will work with the same music but a different objective, and at least four of them will be tied to famous dancer videos included in the Baladi Salon Series (purchase of Baladi Salon Series not required, but the integration will be a bonus and will give you greater immersion and, as a result, confidence in this style).
  • You'll receive personalized, tailored video coaching feedback from me every other week (six times in recorded feedback, not including the live feedback you'll get in meetings described below), alternating with the other half of the series members, so when you are not recording yourself or watching my feedback to you, you are watching my feedback given to others.I will give to each of you, every other week - there will be two groups, in alternation, so it will be a more manageable amount to watch and learn from on the weeks when you are not "on", and you can decide for your week which of your submitted videos you most want me to give feedback on. (It's ok to skip a week if you need to - the more you can put into it, the more you'll get out of it, but no worries if you have travel or work deadlines in there, you can work around them; assignments will be given a few weeks in advance so you can adjust to fit it into your schedule.)
  • Monthly meetings in December, January, and February with your smaller coaching "pod" (3-5 people, three meetings total where you are dancing live, and get to watch the others too), where each member has dedicated time to get live feedback and try new things in a safe space
  • Discussion forum "clubs" on the Ginger City platform, for private discussion and sharing with fellow coaching series members, as well as private video galleries to watch each others' work and feedback

WORK THE STAGE

---> Read below for details for
Work the Stage - get in now for the first live run of this new program! <---

Also check out this short Zoom talk I gave about the upcoming programs.

WTS is the next program in my stage presence & performance skills series, (after Nerd Clinic: Perceptual & Cognitive Factors in Performance and  Raise Your Stage Presence). I'm quite sure the WTS program will make you rethink the stage and how you use it! I'll be sharing practical strategies linking the physical and conceptual aspects of my stage presence methods, and even those who have been studying with me for a long time will find major new material here :-) We focus here on the physical and spatial connections - as well as the *imaginary* ones! -  that will help you to stake your claim on the stage and shine before an audience. This  includes the parts of the stage situation that the audience can see, as well as what they cannot see (but which you can still work with, like a magician or wizard!) I address a variety of "normal" performance stages as well as the modern reality of online stages, and how to reach through the space to really connect, even when that space is through a computer screen.

Why this is important to join now:

Work the Stage is the third in my series of performance-skills trainings that cover the theoretical aspect of my stage presence training methods. This program will have a lecture/slides component as well as a follow-up workshop to practice physical and energetic techniques in an interactive way that will be useful for online performance practice as well as for preparing for in-person performances. The slideshow talk will be in late November, recorded for viewing or reviewing at your convenience, and the WTS Practical Magnetism workshop, included in Work the Stage, will be a chance to apply the spatial awareness concepts covered in the first lecture, in a practical way in your own space. This workshop fits perfectly with Breathwork for Bellydance or the full Breathwork for Performance course, as it offers a spatial framework within which you can apply the breathwork methods, to accentuate your emotional connection with your audience along with the physical one.

  • Access to the discussion forum November 1, on sign-up. You'll receive preliminary exercises and self-observation questions by email to work on in November, with short video instructions from me. PDFs will be available for you to download soon after.
  • Sun. Nov. 15  1:00pm EST (check timeanddate.com for your time zone - US Standard Time has resumed by this date) - Live slideshow lecture for Work the Stage - recorded for reference, in case you can't make it live or want to review, and will be posted on the website for lifetime access.
  • Sat. Dec. 12  2:00pm EST - first live interactive workshop for Work the Stage (1 hour) (this is after the 11am EST Breathwork for Bellydance intro lecture on the same day --these topics are closely related, so you may want to do both!)
  • Fri. Jan. 8  8:30pm EST - second live interactive workshop for Work the Stage (1 hour)
  • Discussion forum on the Ginger City platform will open Nov. 1, for discussion and sharing with fellow program members, as well as private video gallery to share practice exercises - and you can tag me in the forum to ask questions!

BREATHWORK FOR BELLYDANCE

---> Read below for details for
Breathwork for Bellydance - get in now for the first live run of this new program! <---

Also check out this short Zoom talk I gave about the upcoming programs.
And I'll be part of the Bellydance Bundle party on Sunday Oct. 25 2:30pm giving a short demo and Q&A (this program is included in the Bundle, but you can also purchase it here a la carte - use coupon BFBEARLY by Nov. 1 to save $25 on this program via Ginger City - this link applies the coupon - just make sure it is active before you hit the payment button!)

Are you breathing optimally for your bellydance technique?
Or.... are you suffering from “resting bitch face”?  :-(

...or "space face"? :-o
Could your stage presence use a lift?  :-D

Do you want to connect better with your music? With an audience?

By applying simple breathing to your movements and steps in your practice and in performance, you can gain more confidence, power, and flow in your dancing, and connect better in the moment with your music, space, and audience, in improvisation or choreography.

Since 1996, I have coached hundreds of dancers in my 5-part Breathwork for Performance method, including prominent teachers. The dance exercises (and related lecture) will give you a practical jumpstart into the benefits of breathing well for bellydance.

Apply your own breathing as a tool for connection, with your mind, your body, your space, and your audience. This program gets you right into it with your dance movements and steps.

When you experience the benefits in your own dance and performances, you’ll never go back to unconscious breathing again.

Why this is important to join now:

Breathwork for Performance is the foundation of my training method for bellydancers, applicable to all kinds of dancers. In this case, it's applied to movements classified under the "bellydance" umbrella. This new program, Breathwork for Bellydance, is a short introduction to these techniques that you can put into practice right away, to start and develop a powerful, connected dialogue between yourself, your dance, your music, and the world around you. This program is a helpful basic program if you are interested in working with my higher-level material, and if you are curious about joining one of my coaching series. Especially if you are considering applying to join Bring Your Best, my performance coaching series, in 2021 or after, you will need to complete breathwork method prerequisites for applying to that series (either this one or the more in-depth Breathwork for Performance program), and you'll want to have worked on this material before BYB starts. So you'll be glad you took it live with us now! Even if you are not interested in coaching, purchasing now means locking in your access for life at the current rate, so you can go through the material at your own pace with no time pressure, and refer back to it forever as needed!

  • Dec. 1 final deadline to register for live run of Breathwork for Bellydance including the live meetings, at the current rate
  • PDF reference on the 5-part Breathwork for Performance method
  • PDF of my 2001 paper on "Sharing the Air" - about why I created the method, in response to a "breathing crisis" in the international practice of Middle Eastern dance
  • The PDFs will be available for you to download on November 1. You'll receive preliminary exercises and self-observation questions by email to work on in November, with short video instructions from me, and a private video gallery on the website for course members to share their own practice demos, similar to the recent Instagram challenge I offered (@ranyarenee, @thebellydancebundle), but on the Ginger City site.
  • Sat. Dec. 12, 2020, at 11:00am EST (date has been updated; check in your time zone at timeanddate.com) Live intro 1.5 hour lecture, with interactive demo + Q&A
If you can't attend live, don't worry: it will be recorded, and you can submit questions in advance for the Q&A. Read the PDFs beforehand to get the most out of it! The lecture will be about the method and what to keep in mind as you start to apply it in the exercises of this program, including health and wellness considerations, with a short interactive demo, and a chance to ask your questions.
  • (Note: the first interactive Work the Stage workshop will be the same day, Saturday Dec. 12 at 2:00pm EST -- of special interest to those who want to apply breathwork in the performance context, for solo or troupe work)
  • 1.5 hours of Breathwork for Bellydance recorded training and drills, released on the website a week before the live lecture, on Dec. 5: Learn the techniques, dance along, practice in improvising and apply to your own choreography or combinations! LIFETIME ACCESS means you can keep coming back to these programs, bookmark the lessons you want easy access to, and practice efficiently.
  • Discussion forum on the Ginger City platform will open Nov. 1, for discussion and sharing with fellow program members, as well as private video gallery to share the advance practice exercises - and you can tag me in the forum to ask questions!

Payment plans are available
