Program Overview

When dancing the baladi, we start with a slower, more internal energy (the taqsim), then expand our energy field outward as the tempo picks up and our movements become bigger and more complex. We can also use our breath differently for the different sections of the baladi progression. In this video, Ranya offers movement tips and break down the baladi progression. The video also includes an improvised demonstration to a short baladi- "Takassim Accordion & Drbakka" from the album Belly Dance with Nagoua Fouadrecorded by Voice of Stars - with breath-focused voice over.
